Eye Of Horus The Golden Tablet Megaways Review

The Eye of Horus range from Reel Time Gaming remains popular despite offering very little new between installments. Eye of Horus and Eye of Horus The Golden Tablet are close to identical games, and the same can be said about the original Megaways version and Eye Of Horus The Golden Tablet Megaways. The “golden recipe” seems to appeal to players no matter what, but we had our hopes up for some innovation in this release to be honest.

What you get instead is the same old expanding wilds base game, and up to 15,625 ways to win from the dynamic grid. This is, of course, way below average for this engine, but that hasn’t stopped the first Megaways version from being a massive success. The bonus round is still all about the expanding wild symbol upgrade feature, which can turn all 5 mid-level symbols into the top-tier Eye of Horus symbol that pays a lot more.

Eye Of Horus The Golden Tablet Megaways Slot Features

The mid-range symbols pay between 0.8 to 4 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, while the top-tier Eye of Horus symbol pays 20x your stake for the same. The Eye of Horus also pays 1x your stake for 2 of a kind wins, while all the other symbols require a minimum of 3 matching symbols on a payline to pay.

The Wild symbol steps in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve wins, and it always expands to fill whole reels. Wilds can appear on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 only, and they hold no value of their own.

The Bonus Round triggers from at least 3 scatters anywhere in view, and it’s called the Free Games feature in this game.

You get 12 free spins no matter the amount of triggering scatters, and 3, 4, 5, or 6 triggering scatters also award 2x, 5x, 10x, or 20x your stake, respectively. You can retrigger the feature by landing 3+ scatters, and this gives you 12 extra spins.

In addition, you win 1, 3, 5, or 7 extra spins from landing 1, 2, 3, or 4 wilds on the same free spin. Wilds expand as in the base game, while also substituting for pay symbols, but they also upgrade pay symbols in the bonus round. The 5 mid-range symbols get upgraded to the top-tier Eye of Horus symbol one by one per wild that lands, starting with the lowest value symbol. The upgrades last for as long as the bonus round lasts.

Review Summary

The original Eye of Horus is one of the most popular games out there, and the first Megaways version is doing pretty well also.

It therefore seems a bit strange that Reel Time Gaming would release a new Megaways version where everything is essentially the same as in the first dynamic grid version. Both installments come with up to 15,625 ways to win, and you get expanding wilds in the base game as before. That being said, they already did the same with the original game, Eye of Horus: The Golden Tablet, so perhaps it’s not so surprising after all.

The bonus round comes with the same symbol upgrading feature that made the original game an instant classic, but we had our hopes up for something new this time despite what Reel Time did with the original follow-up. Players now have two very similar Megaways versions to choose from, although there are minor changes to the math model. You can still win up to 50,000x or £250,000, whichever comes first, but it’s hard to see the point in this release given that the previous Megaways version is still performing quite well.

Pros

  • Play with up to 15,625 Megaways
  • Wilds always expand to cover full reels (2-5 only)
  • FS w/ expanding wild premium symbol upgrades
  • Win up to 50,000x (capped at £/€250,000)

Cons

  • Almost identical to Eye of Horus Megaways
  • RTP of 95.1 % is below average (and RTP ranges)
  • Max bet is only £/€10
