Ocean Hunter Review
There’s somewhat of a retro vibe hanging over this production, which is probably an intentional tip of the hat to the Jaws movie franchise (big wins are “jawsome” after all). The menacing soundtrack will give you a claustrophobic sense of imminent shark attacks for sure, and they do come eventually. A bit of patience is needed though, as you’ll only see sharks when the Wild Frenzy feature hits at random times.
If you’re going to release a game about the most primordial and savage beast in the ocean, it’s probably a good idea to give it some teeth. Unfortunately, iSoftBet has decided that a 1,538x win cap is good enough for this release, which is a massive step down from the previous Apex Predator series installment, Tyrant King Megaways. It is what it is however, and it’s worth trying at least to see the shark attack wild frenzy feature.

You can add Extra Bait for the price of 50 % more per spin, and this ante bet option increases both your bonus round and wild frenzy chances (it increases the RTP to 96.14 %, as well). The premium symbols pay between 5 and 50 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the shark Wild steps in for pay symbols to help complete winning combos. Wilds do not appear organically however, only in features.

The affected positions turn into wild symbols, and the wild multiplier increases by +1 every time a shark hits an already wild position. The wild multipliers can go as high as x4, and they are added together if more than one wild is part of the same win.You need 3 sonar radar bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger the Bonus Round, and this gives you 15 free spins. The feature comes with 3 unlockable extra reel sets, and special oxygen tank symbols are collected when they appear. They fill the oxygen tank meter on the left, and you need 10, 20 and 30 collected tanks to unlock reel set 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
Unlocking reel sets does more than just increase your number of win ways. It also turns reels into full wild reels for the remainder of the bonus round.
The first unlock turns reel 5 wild, then reels 4 and 5, and finally reels 3, 4 and 5. Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can purchase the bonus round for 100x the stake. It has a 1 in 280 spins organic hit rate on average. The 200 Spins Ocean Hunter Slot Experience
You get to see a few base game spins before we purchase the bonus round at 0:45 into the 2-minute highlights video. We’re not gonna reveal too much up front, but the length of the video is probably somewhat of a giveaway. Review Summary
The coolest thing about this game is definitely the Wild Frenzy feature. Sharks are conspicuously absent until it hits, while the claustrophobic tension is building via the atmospheric soundtrack. Then ‘boom’, massive predators with razor sharp teeth are suddenly rushing towards you, and it’s a sigh of relief when they hit the glass wall of the grid. The feature can be decently lucrative as well, if you get enough multiplier wilds.
The bonus round comes across as a bit of an anti-climax in comparison, and we would’ve preferred a feature built around the wild frenzy instead.
The shark cages is a half-hearted attempt at meshing the feature with the theme, but it lacks excitement and punch. This notion is only underscored by the mediocre 1,538x potential, which turns this release into a feeder fish compared to beasty alphas like Razor Shark.Pros
- Wild Frenzy random multiplier wilds
- Ante bet increases bonus chances
- FS w/ 3 extra unlockable grids
- Each unlock awards +1 wild reel
Cons
- The 1,538x max win is mediocre at best
