Diego Wild Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Diego Wild is an ancient civilization adventure slot from Reel Time Gaming (Blueprint), and it plays out on 5x3 reels with 243 Superways. This means that symbols pay anywhere they land from left to right, and you get to collect Aztec coins in the bonus round. These unlock reel positions from 2 extra top reels, increasing the number of win ways up to 3,125 at the most. This can lead to payouts up to £250,000.

Diego Wild Review

It must be getting crowded in the Mesoamerican jungle by now, with regards to all the different slot game explorers that keep roaming around down there looking for lost treasures. Diego Wild is the latest addition to the adventurer/explorer genre, and Blueprint partner, Reel Time Gaming, has done an overall decent job with the audiovisual presentation.

The explorer himself, Diego Wild, is the wild symbol, and there is nothing else going on in the base game. The Superways engine means you don’t have to worry about paylines, as 3+ matching symbols pay as long as they land on consecutive reels from left to right. The big highlight is the bonus round that comes with 2 extra top rows, and you open up extra reel positions one by one by collecting Aztec coins that also provide extra spins.

Diego Wild Slot Features

The explorer, Diego Wild, steps in for all regular pay symbols, and the wild holds no value of its own. That’s the only base game feature, as this game is all about the Bonus Round. This latter is triggered when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere, and this awards 5, 10 or 20 free spins, respectively.

You start out with the same 5x3 setup as in the base game, but 2 rows are added on top with locked positions. You unlock positions by landing Aztec coins, and each coin unlocks a position on the same reel.

This can lead to a 5x5 layout if you clear all positions, and this increases the number of win ways from 243 to 3,125, at the most.

The Aztec coins land on top of +1 treasure map scatters, and as the coin is used to unlock a reel position, you get +1 spin added to your free spins tally. You can land these +1 scatters without the Aztec coin on top also, and this awards +1 free spin as well.

The 200 Spins Diego Wild Slot Experience

We trigger the bonus round with 4 scatters just as the 3-minute highlights video starts, and we unlocked a decent amount of reel positions all in all. Enough to free up 720 win ways towards the end at least, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.>

Review Summary

We expected some kind of ‘Book of’ clone when we first laid eyes on this game, so the bonus round with unlockable reel positions took us a bit by surprise. Diego Wild comes with some decent visuals and feature animations, but the base game is rather tedious with only wilds to help you out. The Superways Engine means you don’t have to worry about paylines, and extra reel positions can lead to solid bonus round payouts.

It helps that extra spins are somewhat abundant during the feature, not least if you only win 5 free spins for starters.

However, unlocking one and one reel position is not really all that exciting, although it can lead to massive payouts capped at £250,000. Overall, there is not really enough here to make any big waves, but it’s still a decent enough shelf-filler Superways installment.

Pros

  • Base game w/ wilds and Superways
  • FS w/ 10 unlockable extra reel positions
  • Win up to 50,000x (capped at £250,000)

Cons

  • No base game features

Jungle Jim El Dorado - is a Microgaming release revolving around a similar bold explorer, and the game comes with rolling reels with a multiplier trail. The bonus round comes with increased multipliers on the trail, and you can win up to 3,680x your stake.

Gonzo's Quest Megaways - is NetEnt’s follow-up to their most iconic game, and everything has been blown out of regular proportions due to the Megaways engine. The avalanche win multiplier can go as high as 15x in the bonus round, and you also have a couple of brand new features that can help you along the way towards the 21,000x max win.

Cat Wilde and the Eclipse of the Sun God - is all about the brave female explorer, daughter of Rich Wilde, and this is a high-powered Gonzo copycat from Play’n Go. The cascading multiplier trail goes up to 70x in the bonus round, and you can win up to 5,500x your stake.
