? Pyramid Valley is the third slot in Playtechs Power Zone series, and it plays out on a 6x5 grid with 15,625 win ways. Pyramid Valley Power Zones Review
The desert sand and the pyramids in the background are gleaming like they’re made of pure gold, but the visual presentation is still a bit underwhelming in Playtech’s third installment in the Power Zone series. Taking matters into their own hands this time, Playtech Origins has made some choices that are hard to understand.
The 2 predecessors (created by Ash Gaming) came with impressive math models, while Pyramid Valley: Power Zones is watered down significantly. The Power Zones can now expand, and the bonus round comes with 1 power zone guaranteed to expand from the get-go. Still, this release is shamed by a significantly reduced RTP and potential, and the generic ancient Egypt theme is not all that exciting either.

Symbols might land with a flaming backdrop, and this means they are “charged” as a Power Zone symbol. This can happen to any regular symbol, but not to wilds or scatters. The wild steps in for all regular pay symbols, per usual, and the scatters trigger the bonus round.

When you land a charged Scarab symbol, it will move to a random adjacent position on the next spin. This expands the size of the Power Zone, and the Scarab can move around up to 6 times unless it shuffles out of sight before that.
If a charged symbol lands adjacent to an existing Power Zone, it expands that zone. The true magic happens when you land a charged symbol inside an existing Power Zone. This will effectively transform all Power Zone symbols into the symbol that landed. In essence, the whole thing is just a clever take on the well-known Mystery Symbol feature. The Power Zone is removed after the transformation, and you’ll start all over again building new ones.
The Scarab Strike feature will trigger at random times, and it will split the Scarab symbol into 1 or 2 clones. These Scarab symbols will then create new Power Zones as they move about on the grid.
The Bonus Round is triggered when you land at Pyramid Scatters anywhere in sight.
You get 10, 15, 20 or 30 free spins when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters, respectively, and all the triggering scatters generate Power Zones. One of the Power Zones will expand up to 6 times, while the others remain frozen in place.Symbol transformation does not remove the Power Zones during the bonus round, and Scarab Strikes might help you out also during the free spins feature. You need to land only 2 scatters to get 3 extra free spins, and 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters award a full retrigger as described above.
The bonus round builds up to a climactic final spin called the Mega Spin. All Power Zones present on the reels will then turn into identical symbols. This may lead to a larger payout that allows you to leave the bonus round on a high note.
Review Summary
With Pyramid Valley: Power Zones Playtech has gone back to the basics that made the first game in the series, Stallion Strike, such a hit. The more experimental follow-up title, Legend of Hydra, is also popular, but for whatever reason Playtech keeps reducing the potential. Stallion Strike offered a whopping 26,900x your stake, Hydra 10,000x, while the game at hand comes with the “standard” max win of 5,000x.
To top it all off, the RTP has also been reduced significantly in this third installment. Featurewise, the biggest difference is the expanding Power Zone twist.
The volatility is high in all 3 versions, so why would anyone want to go for a dusty, generic Egypt ride, with a comparably weak potential, when the thunderous, fire-maned black stallion is snorting impatiently for you to saddle up.Pros
- Power Zones that can expend
- Bonus round with non-resetting Power Zones
- Win up to 5,000x your stake
Cons
- TP of 95.36 % is well below the predecessors
- The potential is also significantly reduced here
