Magic Powers Megaways Review

It’s nice to visit worlds of magic once in a while, and there are plenty of alternatives to choose from out there. Red Tiger adds another one to the pile, and Magic Powers Megaways is a solid installment in most regards. The dynamic grid is placed in an enchanted forest opening covered with mushrooms and fireflies dancing around, and reels can become Enchanted to provide wilds or upgrade Super Wilds with extra ways multipliers.

The latter is a feature we’ve seen before in Red Tiger Megaways releases, and each full reel Super Wild can count as up to 20 symbols in this game. This explains why the symbol values are a tad low, and the big highlight is the progressive multiplier bonus round. The multiplier is not unlimited, however, but you will probably not care too much if you close in on the solid 25,440x potential. Magic Powers Megaways is well worth a visit or five, but it’s not exactly an instant classic either.

Magic Powers Megaways Slot Features

The premium symbols pay between 1.2 and 2.5 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and winning symbols are removed via the Reactions mechanic. The gaps are then filled by new and/or existing symbols dropping down from above, and this process repeats for as long as you keep winning.

The wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve winning combinations, and there is also a Super Wild we’ll take a look at below.

The 4 middle reels can become Enchanted Reels at random times, and this happens via 1 of the 4 elements of Fire, Air, Earth, Or Water. The feature can last for up to 3 spins, and premium symbols of the same element will turn wild on the corresponding enchanted reel or reels. You can get up to 3 enchanted reels at the same time in the base game, and the elements can both vary or be the same for all 3 reels.

Super Wild symbols can land on all 4 of the middle reels at random times as well, and these cover the full reel with a multiplier between x2 and x7 attached. The multiplier determines how many instances the wild symbol is counted as if part of a win, and the Super Wild Ways Multiplier range is upgraded to x8-x20 if the Super Wild appears on an Enchanted Reel.

You need 3, 4, 5, or 6 Magic Spins scatters in view to trigger the Magic Spins Bonus Round, and this awards 9, 12, 15, or 18 free spins, respectively. Locked Enchantments are carried over from the base game if present, and the same goes for Enchantments that are locked on the final free spin.

That is, these are carried over to the base game, and up to all 4 middle reels can become Enchanted in the bonus round.

What’s more, the Enchantment feature is guaranteed to trigger on every free spin, and it works exactly like in the base game except that you can get 4 enchanted reels at the same time instead of only 3. A Win Multiplier comes into play in the bonus round as well, and it starts at x1. The multiplier increases by +1 per reaction win, and it can go as high as x20. The multiplier is not carried over to the base game, just to be clear.

Review Summary

Magic Powers Megaways does not come with the most imaginary title we’ve seen, but the game does take you into an enchanted world of fairy dust and mystical creatures. The visual presentation is solid, as usual from Red Tiger, but you need to be in the right mood to enjoy a setting like this. It will not be for everyone, perhaps, but Magic Powers Megaways does come with some decent features and a pretty solid math model to boot.

The Enchanted Reels feature would’ve been more interesting if the 4 different elements provided different modifiers, but it boils down to getting random wilds on the 3 or 4 middle reels. The Ways Multiplier you get with Super Wilds is something Red Tiger is fond of, and it can enhance wins in all stages as well. The bonus round multiplier is capped at x20, which is another Red Tiger ‘speciality’, but the 25,440x potential is still well above average for the Megaways engine.
