Eye of Atum is a volatile ancient Egypt slot from Play’n Go, and it comes with 5x3 reels and 10 paylines. You get expanding wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4 in all stages of the game, and the expanding wilds upgrade premium symbols in the bonus round. The aim is to upgrade all symbols to the top-tier eye symbol, and you can win up to 2,000x your stake. Check our full review below the free demo game.

Eye of Atum Review
Don’t let the title of this game fool you, as Eye of Atum is not yet another ‘Book of’ mechanic installment from the creators of Book of Dead. Instead, Play’n Go has decided to rip off another highly popular ancient Egypt release, namely Eye of Horus. We wouldn’t mind this so much if the highly experienced developer had attempted to do something new and unique with the concept, but this is sadly not the case.
The reels are set outside what looks like a temple opening, with palm trees on either side, and the game revolves around the sun god, Atum, which is on display on the all-important wild symbol. Wilds expand both in the base game and during the bonus round, and the latter is all about the premium symbol upgrade feature. The 2,000x potential is disappointingly low, not least for a volatile game, and it’s almost like Play’n Go didn’t quite have the guts to “go after the king” with this copycat effort.

Landing 5 matching premium symbols on a payline awards between 20 and 50 x your stake, and Wilds can land on the 3 middle reels only. Any wild symbol that appears will expand to cover the full reel, and wilds step in for regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.

The Bonus Round triggers when you hit 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere in view, and this awards 12 free spins no matter how many triggering scatters you land. You also get an upfront scatter payout of 2x, 20x or 500x your stake, respectively, and the wild symbols expand just like in the base game.
However, each wild you land upgrades the lowest value premium symbol to the next in line, and you can thus upgrade all premiums to the top-tier Eye of Atum symbol.
You also get +1, +2 or +5 extra spins, respectively, when you land 1, 2 or 3 wilds on the same free spin (up to 150 FS can be won in total). The 200 Spins Eye of Atum Slot Experience
You get a couple of minutes of base game play, before we finally trigger the bonus round at 2:14 into the 3:47-minute highlights video. The feature didn’t quite go down as well as we’d hoped, as we got plenty of dead spins for a good while, but you can see it all for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
Play’n Go is well-versed in the ancient Egypt genre by now, to say the least, but Eye of Atum is not as visually striking as you might expect from this developer. The soundtrack is decent though, adding a mysterious vibe to the otherwise straightforward gameplay. The base game is mostly a grind, with expanding wilds to keep you awake between bonus round triggers. That being said, you can plow through plenty of spins quickly by holding down the spacebar with the turbo switched on.
Of course, the bonus round is lifted directly from the highly popular Eye of Horus, but Play’n Go has missed the opportunity to do something unique with the symbol upgrading mechanic.
It’s even more of a mystery why they’ve chosen to go with such an unusually low potential, as 2,000x can hardly compete with the 10,000x you get in the original. The volatility is just as high, if not higher, in this copycat effort, so we don’t see much that would incentivise discerning players in this direction.Pros
- Expanding wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4
- FS w/ expanding wilds symbol upgrades
- Upgrade all premiums to the top-tier symbol
Cons
- Eye of Horus copycat with far lower potential
- Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
If you appreciate Eye of Atum Slot you should also try:
Eye of Horus - is the original smash hit from Reel Time Gaming, and it comes with a physical slot machine vibe and expanding wilds on all reels. The bonus round is very similar to the game at hand, as it’s all about expanding wilds that upgrade premium symbols. The 10,000x potential is far more solid however, and the volatility is a tad less brutal.
Eye of Horus Megaways - is Blueprint’s dynamic reels version of the popular original release, and it comes with up to 15,625 win ways. You get expanding wilds in the base game also here, and the symbol upgrade bonus round can land you payouts up to 10,000x your stake.
Eye Of Horus Jackpot King - is yet another Blueprint spin-off installment, and you can trigger the random Wheel King Jackpot feature at any given moment. The expanding wild and symbol upgrade bonus round is still the same, and the same goes for the non-jackpot 10,000x potential.
