Apparently, Stormcraft Studios has launched a daughter studio called Hammertime, and they have chosen a reskin job as their debut release. Sugar Craze Bonanza might look like a reskin of Sweet Bonanza at first glance, but it reveals itself as a Thunderstruck Stormchaser clone on closer inspection. We had a good time with the original game, but we are, generally speaking, not huge fans of copycat jobs.

The candyland theme is hardly very original either, but it gets the job done like in so many similar games. The Rolling Reels accumulate multiplier symbols, as before, and this can lead to solid wins in all stages of the game. The random Sugarstorm feature can crack the 10,000x potential at any time, and you can increase the starting multiplier in the bonus round. The feature can culminate in up to 3 Sugarstorm Spins, if you collect enough tokens along the way.

We have to say that we prefer the original Thunderstruck Stormchaser to this candyland clone, and we are, in general, more impressed by debut releases that at least try to be original.

Even the title is partly a rip-off, as it’s hardly a coincidence that they choose the word ‘bonanza’ for a sugar-laden release like this. Visually, we have seen it all many times before, not least in the popular Sweet Bonanza, so it boils down to the gameplay.

If you prefer a colorful sweet tooth theme over the masculine and powerful Norse mythology original, well, then this reskin might be for you. Both games come with a solid set of features, and being able to crack the 10,000x potential at any time adds to the tension. The bonus round can end on a high note, if you unlock the Sugarstorm feature, and we have no complaints about the 10,000x potential. We get that Hammertime is related to StormCraft Studios, but we sure hope their business model is not gonna rely solely on reskin jobs.
