Aztec Ascent Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Aztec Ascent is a volatile Relax Gaming slot set at the foot of a pyramid, and it plays out on a 6x4 grid with 40 win ways. You can trigger a mystery symbols feature with multipliers up to 100x at random times in the base game, and 40,000x payouts are thus possible at any stage of the game. The bonus round is all about gemstone collection, as this increases the multiplier and transforms premiums into mystery symbols.

Aztec Ascent Review

Somehow Aztec Ascent feels less adventurous than many other games with a similar theme. Perhaps it’s the two leaves floating calmly towards the ground on the left-hand side, or perhaps it’s the sleep-inducing panpipe soundtrack. Probably both to be honest, but Relax Gaming has certainly created a game that makes you feel ‘relaxed’ with this release.

The tranquil exterior hides a rather brutal math model underneath the hood though, and you’re definitely in for a volatile ride. The base game offers plenty of dead spins between the randomly triggered Relic Random feature (that may or may not offer a sorely needed top-up). The bonus round can be a thrill if you manage to collect enough gemstones early on, but it can also be a big let-down when things don’t go your way.

Aztec Ascent Slot Features

The base game comes with a randomly triggered Relic Random feature, and you will then benefit from a randomly chosen multiplier of x2, x5, x10 or x100. Up to 4 premium symbols will also turn into Mystery Symbols, and these transform into a matching high value symbol. If this is enough to generate a win, the multiplier is applied to boost your total payout.

You trigger the Ascension Bonus Round when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 gold disc scatters anywhere on the same spin.

Aztec Ascent Slot Gameplay

This awards 8, 10, 12 or 15 free spins respectively, and the bonus round is all about collecting red and blue gemstone icons that overlay regular symbols. The gemstones are collected in the meters on either side of the reels, and you need 5 of each to fill each meter one time.

The red gemstone meter increases the multiplier one step along the trail every time you fill it, from x1 to x2, x5, x10 and finally x100. The multiplier boosts all payouts. The blue gemstone meter turns a premium symbol into a mystery symbol for every 5 gemstones you collect. This happens in chronological order, from the lowest value premium to the highest.

You also get +1 extra spin every time you fill either of the meters.

The 200 Spins Aztec Ascent Slot Experience

Nothing too exciting happened for us in the base game, and even when we triggered the Relic Random feature, nothing came from it. Around the 1-minute mark we trigger the bonus round with 3 scatters, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

It’s interesting that Relax Gaming has decided to go with a randomly triggered feature in the base game, instead of some kind of collection system also there. The latter would be more of a motivator to get you through what is now a rather tedious affair. Hitting a Relic Random trigger does not guarantee a payout either, so there is definitely some potential for disappointing moments here.

The number of free spins you get can make all the difference in the bonus round, but you still need to rack up as many meter-filling gemstones as possible early on to stand a chance at cracking the 40,000x potential. With a solid multiplier, and the majority of premiums transformed to mystery symbols, anything can happen. However, many times the whole thing fizzles out with little to nothing to show for.

Pros

  • Random mystery symbol and multiplier triggers
  • Bonus round w/ mystery symbols and multiplier
  • Win up to 40,000x your stake

    Cons

    • Base game is not all that exciting

3 Secret Cities - is a solid Aztec-themed game from 4ThePlayer, and you get to see different locations and cities via a scatter pick’em game. This upgrades the bonus round at the same time, and the highest tier comes with progressive multiplier wins up to 50,000x your stake.

Templar Tumble - is set in medieval times, and it plays out on a 6x7 grid. Removing tile blockers via cascading wins is the name of the game, and wilds create mystery tiles to help you clear the whole grid.

This is how you enter the holy chamber where the bonus round plays out, and payouts up to 17,280x your stake can be landed.

Gonzos Quest Megaways - is Red Tiger’s follow-up to partner NetEnt’s most iconic game, and the cascading wins multiplier can reach as high as 15x during the bonus round. In addition, a few random features have been added to the mix, and you can win up to 21,000x your stake.
