Curse of Anubis is a somewhat volatile ancient Egypt slot from Playtech, and it plays out on a 3-4-4-4-3 reel set with 50 win ways. Wilds expand on the 3 middle reels, and they can come with multipliers up to 25x. You’ll collect multiplier wild frames in the bonus round, and the final spin wild release can lead to payouts up to 3,750x your stake.

Curse of Anubis Review

Hot off the heels of Khonsu God of Moon Mega Fire Blaze, Playtech churns out another title spun around the mysterious pantheon of ancient Egypt. Curse of Anubis is all about the jackal god of the underworld, and the 3 middle reels are highlighted by an extra 4th row. This is hardly a coincidence, as everything of significance will happen on these 3 reels.

Visually, this game is decent enough, but it doesn’t really stick out from the egypt crowd. You get a solid bet range from 25p to £500 per spin, but the highest value scarab symbol pays only 3x your stake for 5 on a payline. You’re gonna need wild multipliers to crack the 3,750x max win in other words, and these come in abundance from expanding wilds and during the final free spins wild release.

Curse of Anubis slot Features

The wild symbol is Anubis, the jackal god, and he will appear on the 3 middle reels only. Whenever you land at least 1 Anubis wild, he will expand to cover the entire reel. You will also benefit from a wild multiplier of either 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 10x, 15x or 25x.

If more than 1 expanded multiplier wild is part of the same winning combo, the multipliers will not multiply with each other or combine in any way.

Instead, you simply get the highest value multiplier. The 25x multiplier can award base game payouts up to 3,750x your stake.

The Free Games bonus round is triggered whenever you land 3 sunset pyramid scatters anywhere on the 3 middle reels. This awards 10 free spins, and now the Anubis wild doesn’t expand when it lands.

Instead, all reel positions where a wild has landed become highlighted by a pinkish neon frame. You can upgrade each framed position with an increasing multiplier by landing new wilds in it. The frame changes color per wild you land, until you hit the green frame.

The multiplier increases from 1x, to 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x, which means 5 wilds are needed per position to benefit from the 10x multiplier.

The good news is that wilds tend to land in stacks, and you get an abundance of them usually. On the final spin, all the wilds return to the framed positions on reels 2, 3 and 4, with their respective multiplier values combining for a larger payout.

The 200 Spins Curse of Anubis slot Experience

We saw plenty of expanding wilds in the base game, with or without multiplier values attached. We didn’t win all that much from them though, which was partly due to the low symbol values in this game. The bonus round is triggered at 2:17 into the 4-minute highlights video, and we got almost a full deck of wilds on the final spin.

Review Summary

Visually, Curse of Anubis is somewhat similar to Playtech’s recent release Egypt, Khonsu God of Moon Mega Fire Blaze. However, the two games are very far from being clones. Both the theme and the features are nothing we haven’t seen before, and you’ll need multiplier wilds to land anything of real significance in this game.

The most you can hope for without a wild multiplier is 150x your stake on a single spin. A lot hangs on the final free spins, but not as much as in Relax Gaming’s nerve racking Wild Chapo. It’s kind of exciting to see the wild multipliers be assigned one by one, as you sit in anticipation for which regular symbols your stack of wilds are gonna combine with.

  • Low symbol values

If you appreciate Curse of Anubis slot you should also try:

Wild Chapo - is pretty much the ultimate game for players who enjoy a solid final spin “make or break” showdown. You will usually win very little, if anything, before the final free spin. However, up to 10,000x your stake can be landed when the wilds and multiplier wilds are released.

Breakout Bob - comes with a very different theme than the game at hand, but Playtech is toying with the wild release feature also here. In addition, you get a random bonus round with a bomb multiplier, as well as 3 fixed jackpots up to 10,000x your stake.

Juicy Joker: Mega Moolah - is a great alternative if you want to chase the life-altering jackpot, while also enjoying a respins feature with a final spin wild release. In addition, there is also a free spins round with a final spin wild release.
