Lost City of the Djinn Review

We’ve only “caught” the crafty Swedish developer, Thunderkick, in a single reskin job before, and Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower wasn’t even a pure reskin effort. Lost City of the Djinn, on the other hand, cannot escape the reskin stamp. The math model and features are identical to Baron Bloodmore, except you’ll be dealing with adjustable RTP ranges in this 1,001 Nights-inspired version.

The cartoonish theme is bright, colorful and perfectly suited for a genie in the lamp kind of adventure like this, and you get some mysterious clockwork-containing ruins in the backdrop. The 3x3-sized mystery symbol plays a central part both in the base game and in the regular bonus round, while the innovative Pattern Collect system steals the show in the Djinn Spins main attraction. The 25,000x potential is still the most solid in Thunderkick’s 60-slots catalog.

Lost City of the Djinn Slot Features

The character premium symbols pay between 10 to 30 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and you also have a wild that steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins. The wild can appear on any reel, and it pays the same as the top-tier Djinn symbol. You can land 3x3-sized Massive Mystery symbols that occupy the 3 middle reels, and these transform into randomly selected matching symbols, including wilds (but not scatters).

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4 or 5 free spin scatter symbols anywhere in view, and this awards 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.

You get a Massive Mystery symbol on every bonus round spin.

The Djinn Spins feature triggers when you land at least 3 cash scatters anywhere in view, and the triggering cash symbols become sticky on an otherwise cleared grid. You start with 3 spins, and only blanks, cash symbols or special symbols will land during the streak respins style feature. Each non-blank symbol that lands becomes sticky, and this also resets the spin tally to 3 each time.

The cash symbols come with values between 1x and 50x your stake, and you can also land 2 special symbols as follows:

  • Upgrade symbol - adds its own value to all present cash symbols.
  • Copy symbol - collects all present cash values onto itself.

The Pattern Collect feature is the main attraction in the Djinn Spins round though, and you’ll see 5 highlighted positions that come with blue frames. When all 5 positions are filled, their total value is summed up and doubled. This value is then placed on the center symbol of the pattern symbols, and the remaining pattern symbols are removed to make room for more symbols.

Review Summary

It’s not very often you see a reskin job from Thunderkick. Perhaps they’re working on some kind of masterpiece behind the scenes, so this month's release had limited resources allocated to it. We’re not sure, but the bright-colored 1,001 Nights-inspired theme is kind of a mood lifter though, and certainly more lighthearted than the original bloodthirsty horror installment, Baron Bloodmore.

The Massive Mystery symbols can make an impact when they land, and up to 750x your stake can come from a single spin. This is enough to make the bonus round tense, as you get the 3x3 symbols on each spin. The big highlight is undoubtedly the Djinn Spins bonus though, with the Pattern Collect feature at the center of the action, and this is where you’ll stand a chance to crack the solid 25,000x potential.

Pros

  • Random 3x3-sized mystery symbol
  • FS w/ massive mystery symbol on each spin
  • Djinn Spins hold-and-win w/ 3 modifiers
  • Win up to 25,000x your stake

Cons

  • Reskin of Baron Bloodmore
  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges

If you appreciate Lost City of the Djinn Slot you should also try:

Baron Bloodmore - is the original vampire release from Thunderkick, and it may be used as a way to escape the RTP ranges while getting essentially the same game (we’re not sure though). Anyway, you get a darker theme, but the same features and pretty much the same math model as the game at hand.

Djinn Of Storms - is a 1,001 Nights-inspired release from Playtech, and it plays out on 5x3 reels with 25 betlines. You can look forward to stacked wilds, as well as Djinn Wilds that trigger respins with walking wilds and an increasing multiplier up to x5.

There are 3 PowerPlay Jackpots up for grabs too, and the progressive jackpot starts at £20,000.

10,001 Nights - is a Red Tiger installment in the Aladdin-inspired 1,001 Nights genre, and collected oil lamps fill 4 bonus meters. This awards 4 unique modifiers, like mega wilds and multipliers, and you can win up to a solid 10,347x your stake in the bonus round.
