Royal Potato Review

Doing some research on potatoes was unavoidable when reviewing this third Print Studios release, and apparently La Bonnotte is the closest thing to a real Royal Potato. Only 20 tons are handpicked in a French farm each year, and you’ll have to pay several hundred euros for a pound. We’re really impressed by how well the budding studio has managed to turn such an obscure theme into something that both looks and plays extremely well, and their trademarked SuperSpinners are going strong as usual.

This means that any base game win can be boosted significantly, and we also enjoyed the Royal Levy feature where the SuperSpinners combine forces to boost random cash prizes. The bonus round seems somewhat inspired by Push Gaming’s ‘Fat’ range, but the growing potato wild only affects symbols that have been highlighted on the left-hand side table. Overall, this is another convincing and strong release from a young and highly interesting developer.

Royal Potato Slot Features

There are 3 tiers of symbols in this game, and the mid-level character symbols pay between 6 to 12.5 x your stake for 5-oak wins. The top-tier King and Queen symbols pay 50 and 25 x your stake, respectively, and you don’t get any wild symbols in the base game.

You’ll notice 14 SuperSpinner positions between the regular reels, and a random amount of these become active per spin in all stages of the game. The SuperSpinners display a random value, and all wins that pass through an active SuperSpinner are multiplied by this value.

Royal Potato Slot Gameplay

If more than one SuperSpinner multiplier is involved in the same win, the multipliers are applied one after the other.

The top-tier King and Queen symbols may trigger the Royal Levy feature at random times (once every 88 spins on average), and each instance of these symbols will then reveal a random prize. All the active SuperSpinners are summed up at the top of the grid, and then applied to the revealed prize values.

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere in view, and this gives you 10, 12 or 14 free spins, respectively. A sticky 2x1 sized potato Jumbo symbol is placed at the center of the grid, and it serves as a wild throughout the feature. It only steps in for symbols that are highlighted on the left-hand side table though, and the Jumpo symbol grows when part of a win. Winning highlights new symbols, and the Jumpo symbol can grow as large as 5x5 at best.

Here are some interesting stats:

  • Stage 1 average bonus round win: 5.53x your stake.
  • Stage 2 average bonus round win: 17.76x your stake.
  • Stage 3 average bonus round win: 61.95x your stake.
  • Stage 4 average bonus round win: 395.19x your stake.
  • Stage 5 average bonus round win: 1,008.50x your stake.
  • Stage 6 average bonus round win: 10,402.58x your stake.

The Bonus Buy feature may be available in some jurisdictions, but not for UK players for sure. It will set you back 93x your stake, and this guarantees at least 3 scatters (your chances for more than 3 scatters is only 4.7 %) on the spin that follows. The RTP increases to a very decent 97.14 % when you purchase the bonus round, and the feature triggers organically once every 279 spins on average.

The 200 Spins Royal Potato Slot Experience

You get a good taste of the base game, including the Royal Levy feature, before we purchase the bonus round at 1:52-into the 4-minute highlights video. We landed the minimum of 3 scatters after that, and you can see for yourself how it all played out by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

You can immediately sense that Print Studios has a real passion for what they’re doing, and they put a lot of thought and effort into their games. They’ve managed to make a somewhat obscure potato theme into something that’s both fun and potentially rewarding, but don’t let the charming characters distract you from the fact that you’re dealing with a pretty brutal math model in Royal Potato.

The SuperSpinner multipliers are a neat innovation that we first saw in Print’s debut release, Crystal Golem, and the small studio has clearly allowed themselves to be inspired by Push Gaming’s ‘Fat’ series. It’s fun when you manage to grow the potato to a solid size, but you should expect plenty of bonus rounds with measly returns as well. Overall, this is a very solid effort from Print, and we look forward to future releases from this budding and exciting studio.

Pros

  • SuperSpinner multipliers
  • Royal Levy feature
  • FS w/ growing Jumbo wild
  • Win up to 30,000x your stake

Cons

  • Too volatile for casual punters

If you appreciate Royal Potato Slot you should also try:

Crystal Golem - is the excellent debut release from Print Studios, and it comes with 5x3 reels and 20 betlines. You get SuperSpinner multipliers here as well, and these can boost payouts with up to x400 combined.

The evolution bonus round is all about upgrading the wild, and this can lead to 20,758x payouts.

Fat Rabbit - is a classic release from Push Gaming, and the angry farmer awards respins with sticky carrot wilds at random times. The rabbit wild keeps growing the more carrot wilds it eats in the bonus round, and you can win up to 2,000x your stake.

Fat Drac - is a volatile, vampire follow-up in Push Gaming’s ‘Fat’ saga, and it comes with a 5x5 grid with 40 betlines. You can win up to 50,000x your stake from different Bat features, and the Drac symbol is a mystery symbol instead of being wild. The bonus round is all about drinking blood goblets and growing the Drac’s size, and this is one to try if you want a massive potential.
